Native People
Indians were the first people to live in the northeast. They knew how to do things like:
Chicken
Harvest crops such as maize (corn), beans, tomatoes and cranberries.
They could also raise chickens and catch lobsters and clams.
Baked beans, maize and succotash (bean and corn dish) were some dishes they made that they then taught other people to make
Immigrants
The first people to go to the northeast were the Europeans. They came to the northeast because they were English Protestants and wanted religious freedom. Through out everything and new people coming there to live it has stayed as the distinct culture identity. When they came the Indians taught them how to make and prepare many different things.
They brought foods with them like meats, vegetables, almonds, apples, apricots, garlic, lemons, limes, peaches, rice, sugar cane, wheat, cattle (beef, cheese, and milk), and pig (pork, bacon, and ham).
When they came to the northeast they ate out of wooden trenches (which were square bowls), after a while they started using plates and bowls and finally spoons and knives, forks were the last thing to be made and used.
The Europeans used kettle pots and dutch ovens to prepare their foods.
When they came to the Northeast they were also introduced to new foods that were already there like New England clam chowder, Boston brown bread, indian pudding, and maple syrup.
The next people to come to the Northeast were from Ireland, Canada, Italy, and Eastern Europe. Last the Dutch came and settled mostly in the Pennsylvania area.
